Holy Cannoli! I rode my bike today! I didn't plan on it, but since Liz decided to go fishing, I thought why not. The lake we went to has a 3 mile path around it, with some decent hills too I might add. The lake is still mostly frozen. I don't think Liz got a single bite today, but the fact that you could stand outside in a light jacket and feel warm was fantastic.
We weren't the only ones that decided to emerge from the icy slumber. I've never seen so many people out with their dogs. I don't think they cared for me zipping around them. I need a bell methinks. No matter how loud I yell, I still manage to scare some folks. So many birds in the water too. The Canadian geese were having an massive party on this one section of ice. It's great to see nature just in the first moments of waking up all around.
Earlier this week, there must have been 1000s of geese flying through here. I can remember being with Asa and Finley at a frozen lake last year when I overheard geese above me. I was in awe of the massive never ending squadrons that were flying overhead. They just did not end.
This time I was home and saw them from my deck off in the distance. Throughout the day I would see more and more flying by. It's really cool to watch just one bird in the echelon, and how he slowly shifts around in position as they move. It's almost as if the birds are gliding along some invisible magnetic current.
I went on my balcony and grabbed the 200mm. With the grey sky I thought meh. So it was a couple days later when I uploaded the pic. But if you look at it full size, you then see all the other strings of birds in the background (which I couldn't make out with my naked eye at the time). That was just a small section of sky too.
The hospital you see in the pic has also been the source for some much heated debate in the ongoing health care discussions at Capital Hill. Kinda crazy.
