The End

As you can see, June was a stellar month for posts.  So I'm going to call it and say that's it for now.  Thanks for reading!

Touchdown!

I ate so much crazy food this weekend. Ohhhhh blaaaahhh!!  But so goooood.  A very nice friend of my wife's came over on Sunday and made lamb burgers which were put in pita pockets with feta and sprouts.  Add some greek salad , pita, and eggplant hummus too. We also picked up an ice cream cake from Stone Cold Creamery.  It was like chocolate, coffee, and heathbar I think.  I ate a nice big piece right before watching True Blood. Wow that was some good ice cream cake. Makes the last one I had from Baskin Robbins seem like a piece of frozen bread soaked in milk.

I only worked out twice last week. Yikes! Talk about a rest week.  Course I wasn't resting, it was bathroom renov at the parentals house! It will be done tomorrow!

Here's a pic I took at a Logans Steak House a while back.  It reminded me of Federer getting hit on the head with a cue ball.  But whoever painted this girls breasts, art style or not... I mean wth!

Prometheawhathuh?

It seems the journey is not over! I can't stop visiting these forums.  I guess I'm looking for validation that other people were as disappointed as I am.  But a lot of it is people just calling each other stupid with little or no discussion.  It's somewhat fascinating to me to see how we inject so much of our selves into liking whatever, whether it's a movie or a political party. We forget how subjective our experiences are and how much we really just see what we want to see.

I busted out an afternoon run today and while I was not about to burst into flames hot, after an hour I was pretty damn hot.  Was a decent run though, felt good with solid effort.  Tomorrow will be ride and swim day.

Journey Complete

Friday night at about 10:20 or so PM, I sat with excitement as the 20th Century Fox banner rolled onto the huge Imax screen. My glasses and 3D glasses adjusted, Prometheus was beginning. The theater was packed and the sound system was cranked to the max.  It was a very exciting moment!

Alas Prometheus was not for me.  I've read countless reviews since watching it , so much so that I feel completely UN compelled to write my own review.  Basically, the music and script did not agree with me.  I'll be curious to see what my friends think of it when they see it.

Two days to go

Game of Thrones is over. Sigh. Now I have to wait another year. Ahhhhhhh!!!

French Open is coming down to the finals.  I watched a great match the other day between Tsonga and Djokovic. The 4th set tiebreaker was just pure awesomeness. I was practically peeling my face off and hooting as loud as I could.  In the end Djokovic endured. Damn that guy is pure steel facing I think 5 match points.  He doesn't just play it safe in those points either. He's totally aggressive which just makes him a real ninja perhaps.

My friend texted me today and said , " you better run, it's national running day!"  I had planned on running. Really I did, but I had a choice. Run in the afternoon muggy heat, or eat pizza and drink beer. I chose p&b babee.

Did you see the Venus transit? Nope? Yah me neither.  You'd think I'd be gaga about that, but for some reason, it didn't interest me very much.  Venus is just too puny. I mean who really likes Venus.  Solar flares are wayyyy more fascinating.

Asa is taking swimming lessons.  I had to move her into level 2 rather than level 1 since it filled up. She's doing well, but poor girl is terrified to open her eyes underwater.  I don't know where she could of gotten that fear! ( cough , looks to sides).

I purchased my 3D Imax tickets for Prometheus earlier this week. 10PM Friday and I can finally finish this Prometheus journey.  I have somewhat shielded myself from all spoilers. I don't know the entire plot, but I have seen most of the big reveals already.  I just can't help not pressing the "spoiler reveal" buttons in forums.

I've also read several reviews and there are some pretty unhappy viewers out there. Rotten Tomatooz has Prometheus around 75% from 80 reviews. Which is pretty good actually. If it were 45%, that would be horrible.  Of course, I don't always agree with critics, so I'm still going into this with as open a mind as possible. I think I will either love it or hate it. I don't think I'll be lukewarm about it.

Interestingly, Safety Not Guaranteed is getting good press.  I definitely want to see this movie at some point. And if you haven't heard of The Loved Ones, then you should. An Australian horror flick that critics are loving.  I'll definitely have to catch that at some point too.

French Fires

The heat is owhn!  A couple of my last runs outside were mid day and wow that was tough.  It becomes a mental workout.  And I'm not sure if it's just me not being in FL for a while, but the nats seem much denser than I remember. Get the hell out of my eyes man!

My runs at Timberlake have been postponed due to wildfires on Eglin's reservation.  It was really bad a few days ago, with the town engulfed in smoke and ashes falling out of the sky.  My pool cleaning committee members were none to happy about that.

The French Open is owhn!!  It's shaping up to be a good tournament too.  Hopefully I wont lose too much sleep trying to catch stuff live.

A recent pic, car window reflection, bam instant layer!

Perplexity Brothel

The Prometheus spoiler train is out of control.  The film has already been screened by the French critics and comes out any hour in some parts of Europe. Got another week for us in the States.  I'm actually managing to stay away from the majority of the hardcore details.  I don't know how long that will last though.  I get the feeling that the movie is not going to be as good as I want it to be, but I still have hope.

Anyway, the ride is almost over. I've been absorbed on the internet daily with all things regarding this movie.  Some of the fan art on Prometheusnews.net is just insane and inspiring. Their photoshop skills are pretty good too.  They have a thread that's purely for making fun of stuff with photoshop, called a meme thread. From a fan perspective, it's hilarious.  And if that wasn't enough, one of the original painting artists, I believe from the first Alien movie is showing off all these amazing pics of the set and crew building stuff and having crazy times with porn actresses even (in a totally good way!) Yah I don't think I can expand on that though. But the backstory is very cool.

However, even if Prometheus is a huge turd bomb of a movie, I can say that it was totally worth the journey. I never would've read the two scripts from Jon Spaihts, Shadow 19 and Passengers. I read Passengers yesterday and WOW!  That was such an awesome story. I don't know how that is not a movie yet.  One of you who follows this blog needs to read it so I can talk to you about it.  If you need a copy, just email me.  It's just awesome.

And the title of this post is what was translated from a French review about Prometheus.  You have to admit, that's damn funny.

Heatheus

I keep meaning to post and I just don't. Sometimes things happen in the day and I say that is excellent, I will blog about that. Then later I get busy, tired, or think meh it's not so interesting now. You know how this works.

Anyway, home renov is kinda slowed down last couple of weeks.  Which has been good really. Someday I'll have a master bedroom closet like no other though!  It will be glorious.

Another dentist visit for myself and Asa gets 5 stars and high fives. The receptionist told me I look like Heath Ledger.....seriously.....hahahahahaha! I love it!

I got a new phone finally.  It's a smart phone even. So now you can send me pictures and my phone won't explode trying to download them and I can actually see them.  I don't mind texting now either.  I mean it's basically a handheld computer that happens to be a phone too right.  So far though for just call clarity and comfort, it's hard to beat the old flipper. It's a trade off for the better I spose. I also have to say Verizon is kicking the shit out of AT&Ts reception so far.

Game of Thrones is almost over! Ughhhh I could watch this show all day.  Sometimes I wish it was like my experience with Battlestar Galactica. I could just rent and watch episode after episode for 3 seasons and it was glorious.   Waiting a year for another season is painful. But it's good stuff!

Everyday some new piece of information for Prometheus seems to get online.  It's just one spoiler after another.  Soundtrack track listing, Super secret twitter girl reports, low profile actor interviews. I can't stop myself it seems.  It doesn't really matter to me though. I read Hunger Games and saw the movie the next day practically and it was great.  Some new and seemingly valid information has popped up today that suggests Prometheus will be a solid film rather than a disaster.  I'll continue to keep my expectations in check.

I found a baby snake in my florida room. The snakes love me it seems!  I don't think he lived long though. I did my best to save him, but he did not look well.

Cork Snackeez

Yesterday we were on our way to Lowe's to buy a pull bar.  All the DIY stuff on laying down flooring says you'll need a taping block. This block allows you to hammer the flooring slats in a safe way to make the seams push up with no gaps. No one tells you to get a pull bar.  Which is just ridiculous since the tapping block is complete shit.  The pull bar OWNS!

And with that the cork flooring in the master closet is complete. Still a pretty good pain in the ass.

Anyway, on our way to Lowe's we almost saw a dog get runover at a busy intersection near our house.  She was a little fat white jack russel.  So we pulled over and put the dog in the truck.  We drove around a bit to see if we could figure out where the dog came from. She was fat and old, so it couldn't have been far.  I talked to some people on a porch and they suggested I go two houses down.  I did and I think I just scared these people as they didn't want to come to their door. Guess it's the Wolverine thing eh.

So Liz and I took the dog to my parents house as they agreed to keep her in the garage until Monday when Animal Control was open. Well, today Liz was going up to work and saw a house with a sign and sure enough, this was the dog's house.

So I returned Poo Bear! to their owners.  And older couple named Larry and Carolyn.  They just moved into this house a couple weeks ago. Interestingly, he's from LA and her from south FL. Since Larry's wife passed, these two had a teenage love connection that got..reconnected! They had two dachsunds and a maltese looking dog with cancer. All in all a happy re-union.

I know she was going mad the night before since it was a really bad storm. I know if my dog was lost I would be freaking out!  They were so nice and Poo Bear was such a cute little fattie sausage.  It was a good thing all around.

Later in the night, I went out to make sure my pool was going to shut off and what slithered right in front of me into the pool.  A 3 foot or so snake! Ahhh what is up with the snakes lately.  The damn thing swam out and then turned around and came right back at me.  I ran inside to grab a light. Where my 500 lumen light when I need it!

The snake seemed to be stuck in the pool but he kept following me or the light it seemed like at some moments.  Google images for water snake and cotton mouth/moccasin ensued.  Can I really get close enough to see the shape of it's constantly moving head?  Kinda brown, maybe red, yellow irregular bands.  We really thought it was a Moccasin at first which is not a good thing.  Liz's sister and husband are the closest wild animal experts we know so a few snaps from the phone and a few texts later suggested that it was perhaps a corn/rat snake.  A better thing.  They're supposed to be good climbers though.  I just threw some pool noodles on the sides so he had something to slither up on.  It came out of the pool at one point seeming to rest, but then went back in!

Hopefully he'll be gone by the morning.  To think we had thought about taking a late night dip. Yeeesh!

Lit_l ThunDa_r

My moutain bike excursion was cut very short today. Wasn't even out 15 minutes and some harsh thunder in the distance. Stuff just pops out of nowhere in FL! So home I went to run on the treadmill. Blaaaaah. It's been like 6 weeks since I've run on the treaddy. Weird!

Went to Asa's field day outing today. Course the rain cut that short too.  So I ate lunch with her and her friends.  I still get a little uncomfortable around so many small kids.  They just want to eat me I think.  Although two different boys said I looked just like Wolverine! Yeeeah!!  Maybe I should go to Dragoncon.

Still no cellphone.  I think I'm done debating though. This weekend I'm fairly certain I will obtain one.  Who wants to guess what I will choose?!!

I came across a video on youtube for a band called Dye. The song is called Fantasy and the video is done in anime style.  It's basically 4 teens sneaking into a public pool for some typical teen fun but it quickly turns into some else.  You can search it on youtube if you like. I can't seem to get the song out of my head either. I might as well download it.

Timberrrrr

I dressed up for a run and then laid down in my parents bed. I sorta dozed off for prolly 15 minutes. I suddenly felt exhausted driving over there and thought, well this run might not be happening. I popped up afterwards and didn't feel sleepy, so I said I might as well run.

I finally, after practically a year, got out to the TimberLake Rec area for a run.  I haven't run a trail since Mt. Charleston last year. It was so nice to have no flat roads, only twisty paths and some hills.  Yes, fun hills too,cuz they don't last 2 miles and are at -17 feet sea level rather than 9000 feet above!

My stride quickly shortened up and I was having a blast running down the oak leaves and root obstacles.  I ran past a 3 foot snake of some kind. It slithered away from me, thank goodness.  Prolly just a common variety black snake, but since I rarely see snakes in the wild, I was like ahhhh!  The worst thing is spiders though.  I hate getting a face full of web.  Then the other webs are constantly getting on my arms and legs.  Makes me itchy.

Swarms of little nats, you just have to make sure to exhale.  I did get a nice branch across the face and one of those thorny vines reminded me in a most unpleasant way that I have road rash over my right leg. Damn thing coiled around me and then pulled like I was a yoyo. Ughhh! And wow it was hot as **** today.  Had I not been in the shade of trees I would've been miserable.

Can't wait to get back out there and do a trail bike then run!

Oh and on my way home I saw a guy, a very fit young dude, running down the sidewalk with I'd guess about a 25 pound kettlebell in one hand.  Is it me or does that not sound like a good idea. Resistance training fine, but don't imbalance yourself right? Maybe thats why he was very fit.

Repair Underway

Well, I awoke this morning and all was well.  My left ankle def took some sorta hit as its sore, but overall nothing to bad. I think I will just run tomorrow.

Being without a cell phone is starting to become a bit annoying.  I'm still deciding if I want a smartphone or not.  They are calling to me with all their sexy 1080/8mp/gorilla glassness.  People complain that they have to charge their phone everyday. Uhhhhh, I've been doing that for years and it's no big deal. Ahhh old tech has its perks.

KurSplat!

Fresh off the road!

Imagine riding along (not too fast thank goodness) and suddenly you decide to just lay your bike down into the curb. Man, I wish I could've seen a video of it.  I'm pretty sure my head went smack into the ground.

It's been years , I can't even remember since I was at that point of "well, I can't do shit now, just gunna fall and hope shit don't break!"  I was cleaning my glasses with both hands and a freak cross wind came along. I'm such the bighead no hands rider I'm like I can compensate with no hands. Nope! Wind said,"get your ass on the ground!"

I splatted right at the corner of a driveway. So lucky I did not meet big brick mailbox.  I sat their collecting myself. Nothing broken, no deep cuts, bike ok, and yay! I didn't get racked. That's the worst isn't it?  The woman that lives at this house drives up and offers to give me a ride back, but I tell her I'm ok and ride home.

I got home and cleaned my wounds real quick and then went for a run! Why not right?

What you don't see in the pic is my shoulder scraped up and the other side of my knee.  Right now it feels like someone hit it with a hammer and is pretty swollen and bruised. Guhhhhh!!!  My ribs are starting to ache and my left shoulder is hurting too. Oh Motrin, please save me! Hopefully, I won't be a hot disaster tomorrow.

Was this an adjustment bureau intervention? Setting me back for a few minutes for some reason? Hmmmmm.....

Someone from the Prometheous forums was using this as an avatar! Hilarious!

Shoot the Beezer Patrick!

April is out! Happy Birthday to my mum!  You're such a great mummy!

I didn't get much running in for April, but I did increase my ave mile to 4.4 which is the highest it's been in 9 months, so I'm happy with that. And I've thrown in swimming and biking too which is fun and fresh.  Running after riding is different than just running. Obviously theres some inital muscle WTF, but it's something more. I almost seem to breathe better and have a more constant rhythm in my head.  I wonder if it's due to my HR being lower while biking first.

Who knows, it may all even out at some point, but for now it's refreshing.

I am done with redoing the ceiling in the bedroom. I am sooo freaking happy that's over. I don't want to do another ceiling for at least 2 months. hahahahaha Seriously, at least 2. (raises eyebrows and points fingers)

The Beezer has left and it was a good visit. We got to hang out and drink some beer whilst eating some fine grilled meats prepared by my masterful self. We even managed to catch a flicker show. Cabin In The Woods! While not amazing, it was a fun slasher flick.  I mean the plot twist was clever, and the comedy of say Aqua man was funny ( and gross) but let's get to the meat of the matter. Zombies and Stoners. They should make a movie like that. Just cheech and chong scared out of their minds and zombies. It would be cultishly funny I think.

Prometheous is bearing down upon the feverish cinematic hungers of the rabid Alien fanbase.  Will it be rated R or PG13! AHHHHHHHHHHH  That's the hot topic it seems.  The latest International trailer shows us the blue vagina cobra as its being called.  Some say it's cute! I kinda have to agree.  I just keeping hoping the movie will be good.  As Noomi says in the trailer, "PLLEEEEZZZEE!!"  I'll be there opening night to find out.

Postis with the mostis

The Beezer comes to town tomorrow. Hmmmmm.

My cell phone is dead. At least I'm pretty sure it is. I've removed the sim card and battery a couple of times, dropped it some, and yelled at it.  It just doesn't want to connect to the network now for a couple of days.  So I guess I'll be moving forward in the tech world. Will I get a smart phone though? Hmmm prolly not.

I went crazy yesterday and rode 6 miles, ran 3 miles, and swam ~200 yards. The swimming portion was stupid slow though. You gotta understand, gerbils swim faster than me.  But it felt very good.  It had been 10 days since I ran, and I kept having to slow myself down. Was all good though, and today no crazy issues.

Birthdays and fixies

Happy Birthday to my dad! Keep on truckin mister!

Got my mountain bike back from Dragon yesterday. Finally donated my old Nashbar to Goodwill. That was a good bike! Now I'm wanting a new nashbar, only it's a fixed gear bike, or fixie. Unfortunately, the model I was looking at is out until August. So perhaps I'll just actually ride my mountain bike on some rougher terrain since I finally got my stupid Permit for the Timberlake Rec area. (Remember when we got lost man?!!)

I never mentioned that two weekends ago, I went to Chuck E Cheese for a birthday party. If you ever want to scare someone into not having a kid, take them there. Like 15 birthday parties all crammed into one area with a big mouse rapping and kids screaming. It was insanity. They stamp numbers on your hands when you come in that only show under blacklight. This is so that no one can leave with your child. Explaining that one is always kinda odd. But man, we musta caught some crud of the plague there. It's been a constantly morphing sickness train last two weeks, from stomach to bowel. 2012 is becoming a year of sickness!

Yay my ankle seems fine after a ride yesterday. I spent most of my time riding in a certain gear or two, even up the tiny hills we have here. Thing is, I like coasting. It's fun. A fixie may not be for me.

Angry Ankle

Bike is at Dragon Sports for tune up.

My left ankle decided on Monday to revolt for apparently no reason. All exercise has come to a halt. This has made my new Sugoi bike/run shorts sad.

Was feeling ill the other day, so I consumed large pizza quantity for energy.

Finally Game of Thrones has revealed Brienne of Tarth! She rocks!

Mulligan Sanders

I watched Never Let Me Go tonight on a whim. Jeez what a whim. What a downer movie! Carey Mulligan is so awesome though. The ending with her standing by a field and talking about how meaningless it all seems at times, is just sooo sad. Guuuuh!!!

Got 2 kiddie birthdays this weekend. Eyes wide!

Working on bedroom ceiling again. It was non stop sanding of the ceiling earlier in the week and it's official, sanding ceiling is the worst. Why do I now own two orbital sanders and 3 shop vacs?

Seriously Dead

Riding in my old neighborhood today. Things have gotten a little older and a little rougher round the edges for sure.

I saw a big calico cat squeeze itself into a smallish street drain today. Those kitties can compress when needed. Later I scared a drunk guy walking on the sidewalk. Then I couldn't help but notice this obese woman dressed in bright blue from head to toe. It was like a sweatsuit I think. She had her hair twisted up and was reading a book while walking a small yorkie. Then I saw a Corgi in a driveway. Then I witnessed a 500 pound woman in her front yard crying. At first she was crying and talking, but it soon intensified to moaning and wailing. Another woman was in front of her with her hand on her hip and a posture that said 'impatience'. I found it to be very sad. Later, I saw a couple fighting on their porch. The woman was bent forward and you could see her teeth and neck muscles flexed all vibrating behind a pointed and curved finger. Later, I turned a corner and saw a buzzard on the ground. I headed straight for it and it flew up carrying something dead like a large squirrel but when I passed the spot, it smelt of seriously dead fish. Ughhh! Finally, I thought I was being attacked by a wild Jack Russell Terrier, but this little black and white JRT just wanted to sprint right next to me for 50 yards or so. It was fun, but he scared me at first since he seemed like he was going to cross in front of me. Wild JRT attack!

An exercise

There she is, made of corroded metal scraps
slinging bolts, bits, and sexy vectors of red
a stomping, clashing squall of crushing seduction
that bleeds you willingly

there's the hand
there's the turn of the head
chest out and down
watch the normal world peel away
what should I say
what could I have said
this is what I will do
no, it's all too broken
it's all poisoned to the core
I just lay there zooming in and out
rolling the distaste around in my mouth
at least it isn't black licorice

fists clenched, raging teeth
the matrix of everything hateful
glistening on his oily black flesh

ooooh blaaaahhhh I was trying to write a little something for each song I was hearing. Yah, not feeling it.

here are some kinda bland pics, minus Dory's little goofy self that were just an exercise of sorts.

Bean Dip Buttocks

Had a pretty killer weekend. Yeah baby..kill-errrr. haha Am I too old to use such a word? Seems wrong in text. But hey, it WAS killer. Melting Pot, Hunger Games movie, swimming, lots of tasty liquors, a bean dip that was insanely good cuz I don't know why, and the season opener of Game of Thrones. I even busted out the mountain bike for a quick little 10 mile run through the neighborhood.

So Hunger Games the movie. I was pleased! Very pleased with how they adapted it to the screen. They didn't glam up the relationships like I thought they would. It was great to see Lawrence give Katniss some dimension that the book couldn't quite portray. The only thing I would've changed was all the shaky cam work in the beginning. That was a bit much. How often do I get to read a book and then see the movie days later?!! Very cool!

It's been since last June that I rode my bike and man, those bike muscles were like whoah dude! Slow down! My butt-tocks were dying afterwards. Anyway, I figured I'd give my calves/shins somewhat of a rest for a couple of days since they continue to be little wussies. I finished up March with 70 miles which is great since I dipped down to 30 in Feb. However, I didn't get in any real long runs this month like I had hoped. Hoping I can get to that in this April-ness.

Speaking of running long distances, congrats to a certain blog reader for his PR in the Knoxville Marathon this weekend. You had some obstacles for sure, but I'm certain they will only propel you forward in your next endeavor!

Liz had surgery today in her sinus cavity. Luckily they didn't have to break her septum to reset it, so she didn't get smashed by hammer face. Although her uvula ( thats the little dingle berry in the top of your throat) looks like it was put in a vice. Ooof!

I had bloodwork done last week and my HDL came up to 37 which is good considering it was 24 last time I had it done. Still could be higher. Need to up those fish oil pills perhaps. And I now I have a prostate baseline! Ha! You wanted to know this didn't you! But seriously, the bloodwork is the way to do it now. You don't need the pokey pokey to find out!

Ninja Swirls

Dancing as one would only do in private while holding a box of mozzarella cheese its.. that's what I was doing. Listening to Enter The Ninja by Die Antwoord I spy a Lizard, better known as a green anole peeking around a corner outside my sink window. He's flaring his red throaty sack and I point to him and say "you're a mutherf***in ninnnja!"

Later I was finishing up the dishes and somehow I managed to spurt out a couple of small bubbles from the dish soap. They were maybe the size of my pinky fingernail. One of them floated for a very long time, at least a couple of minutes. It would get close to the counter or a cabinet and then spin around all crazy and fly up and down and zig zag. I was standing still watching this seemingly cognizant micro probe zip around. Finally, it just kind of stayed in place for a few seconds. I got close and looked at the color densities/swirls. None of them were moving. Usually it seems like bubbles are always rotating. Then it slowly came down and landed on the counter to burst. Can't help but have relativistic universe thoughts with this. But seriously, was that an unusual event I wonder? How often do people watch bubbles for minutes at a time?

Close call

I finished The Hunger Games. I have to say it was fun read. Now to see the movie this weekend. I don't think I'll be moving onto the 2nd book though. I also watched the movie preview a couple of times and surfed over to a couple of Letterman shows with Jennifer Lawrence. She is an absolute riot in person! Riding wild horses and being attacked by peanut butter crazy dachsunds..yah go find it on youtube now! She reminds me of Amanda Bynes a little.

Today could've been an astronomically horrible day. I came so very close to running over an old man and his dog. Basically, I'm about to pull out into traffic. When I pulled up to turn, my corners were clear, so I'm looking left at the oncoming traffic. This guy and his dog were walking fast apparently and must have gotten the light to accept a crosswalk immediately. So he just starts crossing. I just happened to let my foot off the break for a second and wham this guy is dead center, what seems like inches from my truck. I don't even think he noticed. He was just looking down. Had I had a clear opening in traffic, I probably would've ran him and his dog over. Ughhh it made me ill for hours afterwards. I know I should always recheck, but damn dude, don't cross when the driver hasn't made eye contact with you.

Syringe Buffet

My bed that I slept on from roughly age 5 to 18 is now in a Buddist Temple. The monk sleeping on my bed was meditating and saw a woman crying on the bed. Perhaps it has something to do with the tons of syringes found at the temple before it was temple. I had another bed, that I experienced poltergeist activity on. The current owners of this bed report no odd incidents, however the owner of the couch I had has heard someone call her name from the room with the couch.

I had a difficult run today. It had been 4 hours since the Thai Buffet, but apparently, that wasn't long enough. So out of breath, too full. Shins not happy. Ughhh

Reading The Hunger Games right now. It's much better than I thought it would be. I should finish it in the next couple of days so Liz and I can go see it this weekend.

I bought yurbuds. I dug out my old Samsung mp3 player. This can only mean one thing.

Strawberry poptarts are guuuuuud!

Hunger Pains

I decided not to do any weights or other workout items yesterday after my run since I knew I'd be helping my friend move into his new home today. Wow! Best decision I've made in a long while. I did not expect to get the workout I did today. My friend has some heavy furniture. Whhhoooo dogggeeee! The gun safe was so heavy, it broke the dolly we had. Just crumpled the wheel and it popped off. Luckily that happened when resting and not moving. I'm gunna be on the motrin wagon for a couple of days!

Everyone and their mamma is either reading or has read The Hunger Games. I'm like what is going on?!!! My friends kids have read it! And thank goodness the movie appears to have been done well with what seem to be positive reviews. I think I might just have to read it too. Yes sir mmhmmmmm.

Zensahhh

So my calves have still been acting up. Tuesday I decided to wear my cheapo calf sleeves while on the treadmill. These are just knee high tube socks cut at the ankles which I normally just wear while asleep if needed. They actually provide a good bit of compression for just cotton. Anyway, after my run with them on, my calves felt better. So I went to the running store, what the hey , and finally got some proper calf sleeves by Zensah. I have to admit, running outside with them on made me feel a little dorky. I'm not sure if it's just me feeling better, but my shins actually felt much fresher after. It's like I could feel when I was compensating with my shins and I could adjust. There's also a certain added heat, that felt good. It was cool outside today though, so that could be a neg in the summer heat.

At the running store, I had a brief discussion with they guy working there. He said, if nothing else has changed, it's gotta be your shoes. Dude, don't give me an excuse to buy new shoes! I told him I actually keep logs on how many miles I have on all 6 pairs of shoes I run in and only one pair is approaching the wear out limit. He didn't think I was crazy though. We talked about hydration issues, and he suggested I try coconut water at my local grocer. I don't think I've ever seen such a thing. Is it fattening? haha I'll give it a shot though. Why not! I also got to try out some new massaging tools from a company called Moji. gomoji.com and you can see these crazy little steel ball things that look like S&M tools.

As for the Zensah sleeves, I expected them to be much tighter. They do have a nice smoothness slipping on. And like I said, I felt them compressing my shins more, which may be a function of me and not the sleeves. I will continue to wear them for a while.

Foggy Pace

Was in Kohl's the other evening and I ended up talking to an older guy in the clearance section for a good 15 minutes. I thought he was just making conversation, but in fact, he was looking for people to work with 'his business" whatever it was. Was kind of odd really.

I was on a foggy track on base this morning at 720am. I was there to pace Liz for her 1.5 mile run for her PT test( which didn't happen for an hour later). 6 laps around the track was all that it took. It's just so weird to run on a track with other people running for time and having guys call times when you pass the blue cones. It's insanely boring and yet 1 mile seems to happen in no time at all. 4 laps already? That's it? Hmph. I always manage to lose count at some point.

Being out in the morning FL air in the pines and wet weeds brought me flashes of my childhood elementary school mornings, waiting for the bus, or walking to school and playing tag for never long enough. All the spider webs were visible from the dew and the water tower was like a giant tripod just emerging from the fog. It was slightly chilly too which made it just right. It's easy to envision the looming oppressive humidity blanketing me. Sticky McYucky!

My calves have still been sore though now during my runs for the last week. It's never really bad, but it's enough that I'm trying to compensate and my shins end up feeling tweeked as well. I'm not really sure what it is. Though I'm considering buying a STICK for some quick massage action. Foam roller on the shins is not only painful but an ab workout. I guess I need to stretch more or something. I feel fine afterwards though.

Are you seeing this?

3 new trailers for Prometheous this weekend. An IMAX trailer, the US full trailer and the UK trailer, each with unique footage. Exciting! Supposedly, there was a piece of unique footage on a tv spot on Walking Dead tonight. I've yet to see that one uploaded.

Ridley says in an interview Q&A period when asked if there will be anything as nasty as the chestburster from Alien, "ooooh yes indeed!" Ridley says he's actually kinda of embarrassed by its nastiness. hmmmm!!!

Bought patio furniture this weekend. Yikes!

Got my swim on today! Felt good!

Trailerception

So far there has only been a teaser trailer for the movie Prometheous. Earlier this week they released another teaser trailer for the full length trailer coming out this weekend. This was met with a lot of "are you serious?!!" on the forums. It's the new thing apparently. I like the reference to Inception. They call it trailerception : a trailer of a teaser, of a trailer of a trailer!! Needless to say, I'm looking forward to the full length trailer as my hopes for this movie move back and forth.

Earlier this week a supposed fake script for Prometheous was put online. I read it. It was horrible in every way. If I saw that movie, I would never again say Ridley's name. Later in the day, it was deleted from imdb for unknown reasons. Who knows what that means. Then this morning a few pages from a supposed early draft of the screenplay got posted. Better, but still not good. Official writers tweeted that in fact it was fake.

Interestingly, I was watching a snippet of Alien behind the scenes stuff. Long story short, Jerry Goldsmith was none too happy with how his music ended up in the film from 79. He tells the story of spending all day composing a piece for the opening title sequence to which the execs gave the thumbs down. So he went back and gave them what they wanted, creepy, weirdd, and strange. He still gets praise for it to this day and he says it's just all wrong! It took 5 minutes to write that and...well I imagine he thinks it's garbage. Just another case of an artist whose praised for work that he has no love for.

In other bizness, I ran today and my calves and shins have been sore during my run from the getgo for the last 3 days. It doesn't increase in pain and goes away after I'm done. It's annoying. Not sure what is it yet, if anything.

I finally swam today in the pool. It's still cold, but just warm enough to bully myself in. I've been cleaning this damn thing all winter thanks to the trees in my neighbors yard. I'm swimming in this mofo every day damn it!

Hotness

It's officially getting hot. My AC turned on yesterday for the first time in months. I've gotten some bug bites. My run today was feeeking hot! Sweat stinging my eye and feeling like it's constantly pooling on the side of my nostrils. It's only going to get more intense too. Time to get my poolwater up to spec cuz I'm going to need some serious refreshment.

Universe Stuff

I meant to post these a while back. Many of us have seen Cosmos and know when Carl Sagan talks about "star stuff" and how were made out of it. This video is astrophysicist Neil degrasse Tyson talking about the same thing. I really like the music and visuals in this video though. I'm fairly certain that the sunset at the end is on Mars.

This link is also somewhat Universe related. I'd seen something like this done before, but not to the ultimate extremes as this one. If it doesn't blow your mind, you might as least think, "what the heck is that?!"

The Mysterious Island

I've run 7 days in a row! Woah. Ok Friday was kinda not really running, more like walking with some falling down here and there for 1.5 miles. I felt awful for some reason. Allergies? I really don't know. I had chills and said this ain't working. So I went right home and ate some avocado goodness and drank a Yuengling.

Ate home made pizza tonight. Liz makes the dough and it is so so good. Turkey crumbles, pineapple, and plenty of real cheese. Yumomomo.

Ok, so I'm going to give you my review of The Mysterious Island. You prolly don't care about this book, and that's ok. After I read a book, I like to read a bunch of reviews on it, both good and bad and then process it in my head, so this is kind of a brain dump item. But only read this if you have read the book, or intend on never reading it.

The Mysterious Island was written in 1874 by Jules Verne. It's considered a classic, and it seems that reviewers on Amazon who have read all his material, many pick this story as their fave over 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea or Around The World in 80 Days.

The basic story is about 5 men who are Northerners trapped in a Southern prison in the Civil War (and a dog) who escape via hot air balloon. They get sucked up in a hurricane and travel thousands of miles to a deserted island.

And here's a fun thought, choose any five people you can think of, whether they be friend, family, or celebrity...to be stuck with on a deserted island. You could be logical and maybe pick people who'd be highly skilled in survival, or you could pick close friends who work well together. Or pick a combo of both. I'd prolly choose the latter, since 5 experts usually don't work well together at all.

At any rate, I think Verne wants to be very realistic in his telling of this story. He gives a thick helping of detail, often scientific about the island geography, fauna, and the procedures used to figure out engineering issues and chemistry reductions. However, the ease of which these men work together just seems to go 'too' well. Rarely do they bicker or argue and if they do, it ends up with one saying please don't, and the other saying, we'll just agree to disagree.

Now it could be argued that psychologically men were different back in the 1800s. You know probably less likely to whine about petty shit, and just get what needs to be done, DONE without griping. It's hard for that idea to hold though, because when you have lost everything and you're stressed out by having no food or comfort, you are probably not going to discuss things like you were at a table with Plato with a calmness and fullness of logic. Maybe the intellectual awakening of men was like that though as bravado was not yet unleashed.

It also rather annoys me that these men over time make glass, nitroglycerine, create dams, make clothes, tame animals, grow huge crops from just a couple of seeds, make a windmill, a watermill, a telegraph with 5 miles of wire, bridges, a boat, a canoe, bows and arrows, forge metal tools, and they do them without ever running into much problems other than a lotta elbow grease and time. I mean, somedays I feel like I can't even change a lightbulb without running into some technical difficulty. So that hyper real thing should be taken with a grain of salt. One little item that bugged the mess out of me, oh I made a funny, ppfttt nevermind. Ok, serisouly, you land on one the most bio-diverse islands ever which is a stretch really, and the one thing thats missing. Bugs! Those guys would've been crawling with nasty stinging, pesky biting, blood sucking hungry fly in your nose for fun bugs. Bzzzzzzzz! That's the wrong answer button going off.

Interestingly, the attention to detail in the story is a plus for many readers and big negative for others. I've taken in my fair share of survival shows/books and even I have to say that some of the book read like a boring diary. Like this blog! Seriously, like woke up, killed bird, ate it and it tasted good, chopped wood, wondered where my pants went too, fell asleep by ocean, listened to dog growl at rocks?!. The good thing that does come out of this dullness though, is that it creates a sense of being trapped in the book and that sort of carries over to the story of hey, I've been on this damn island for 3 years! It kinda feels like it sometimes. It's an mood thing though, it sets up stuff for the last 4th of the book. You've spent so much time in your head trying to envision these rivers and cliffs and bays, that when they all go kaplooey, their destruction seems very real.

Character wise, in some ways the whole bunch of them were kind of bland but their interaction which was so often discussed as a group that it made all 5 of them like one character. The colony was the character with the dog and orangutan being separate. I think certainly Pencoft stood out the most for me as a character I became vested in. Who doesn't like a salty dog sailor, who wants to eat bacon, smoke a pipe, and get shit done, all the while making jokes on everyone else? Again seriously, he's a tough old guy that is probably cliche, but I liked him and when I see big tough guys cry, it gets to me. It's like watching Admiral Adama cry, it just gets to you.

It's interesting though that animals like the dog and orangutan can become likable characters with little backstory. It's as if we already have their characters ready in our heads and it says “yup they are just, noble, and loving creatures”. When Verne tells how the Orangutan named Master Jup (Jupiter) liked to play with the pigs' tails, that just cracked me up. BAM! Instant likability! I really kinda felt bad when he died later too. Poor Master Jup. You should've died fighting pirates as falling into a crack in the ground in the darkness of night to be crushed to death and drowned seems cruel.

Overall the book was decent. Can't beat the kindle price for zero dollars either! I think the 'mystery' of the island is a bit of a let down considering all the build up to it. It does work perfectly though. You see, someone or something kept saving them at the last moment and helping them in small odd ways. You start thinking that something supernatural is going on. You start praying its not someones dream. Then you find out! This was my response:
“What! No Way. Captain Fucking Nemo! You've got to be shitting me.” Such a potty mouth I know. The end of the book after Nemo reveals himself is a bit predictable though, but the descriptions of the volcanic destruction in the last chapters was well done. It would make for some wonderful special effects if done right.

And that's it!

Asteroids

Well this post was supposed to go up like Tuesday but it never made it, so I'm gunna just slap it up there.

Saturday - it rained and rained and rained some more. Ahh Forrest! I decided to run outside as it seemed to have stopped. The treadmill room seemed so dark and murky. Not even 8 min into my run and it started pouring on me. I had the Brooks LSD jacket on, which kept me warm enough, but I had no hat. It really didn't bother me after a while. Needless to say I got soaked. The streets were flooded and in a moment of childhood frenzy I decided to just go puddle stomping for a while. It was great watching my feet splash over and over in the water. I mean think how many times you get to see that? But it was kinda chilly out and soon my toes were getting cold. Another good run in the rain though. I recommend!

Sunday - went to my daughter's classmates birthday part. A few of the fathers there were EOD or explosive ordinance disposal. I asked one guy kiddingly if sandals were good for clearing mine fields. The look on his face was great. He says, "uh no, we have blast proof boots for that!" We briefly talked about the amount of robotics training that is required and the high drop rate for the field due to stringent testing both physically and mentally. I asked if dragonskin had made it to the field yet. Dragonskin is a hi tech armor that deflects fast moving particles. Apparently they had some issues with it being compromised in the armor due to glue. Back to R&D I guess. Most of the time I just watched my girl jump around in the bouncy house and listened to the guys talk about how screwed up the program is right now. It doesn't matter where you work, it's messed up! Interestingly, I was listening to the wives talk about the upcoming Ball for them at the end of the month. One woman said how sad it gets during the night when you start honoring all the fallen, see all the men in wheelchairs, missing legs and arms, and everyone crying. EOD, and intense field of work for sure.

Monday - sitting in the parking lot of Publix. I was actually just in the truck reading my book. How goofy is that! I had bought a couple of chicken tenders cuz you know protein is guuud for you. At one point I was sitting there eating a tender and listening to Underworld's Heal song, which is the theme for the movie Sunshine (which is awful no matter what you say). It then occurred to me how cool it would be if the sky was suddenly filled with falling asteroids. You know, big burning flaming ones. Kind of apocalyptic if you will, but it just struck me as an awesome image. The beauty of it is, no matter where you are this visual adds a kick to the moment. Next time you're running and you go to that dark place of pain and struggle, look up and see the asteroids raining down you. Next time you're eating Taco Bell , look out the window and take a bite of your burrito and think, damn! ASTEROIDS!!!

Tuesday - a friends dream. A good friend told me about his dream and it made me laugh so I'm going to recount it for you and change names. I really don't think he'll mind anyway.
TBC!!

Dugong

Waffle House is saying goodbye to the Tbone steaks. Go get one. Or not, I mean who wants to eat a steak there? They are signing up with some free range chicken company too. Cruel Free meat is a good thing.

Top three shows to watch per the days WH staff:
1. Sons of Guns
2. Breaking Bad
3. Walking Dead

Isn't it funny when waitresses put a little heart next to their name when they leave the check?

Do you know what a Dugong is? Watch this video to find out!

Bee Pollen

I was in the produce market tonight, looking to buy a largish quantity of tomatoes. I found a jar of Bee Pollen. They looked like nerds candy only yellowish, like you'd see on a bee's leg. So what do you do with bee pollen?

I came home and googled it and many sites tell you that bee pollen is the next best thing to the fountain of youth. Put it in your cereal and be amazed at how you will be antioxidized like never before. Finally found some sites that say well, there's no studies to support its claims, and a few that negate them. So for 12 bucks a jar, I'll pass.

Running today, I passed a couple of young kids. One was overweight and walking, the other on a bmx bike. The boy on the bike looked upset with his head down and a kind of kick dirt into the wind pout. The walking boy was asking him questions and bike kid says, "well he always gets someone else, because he knows he can't win in a fight against just me." Sigh, ughh the pains of growing up. Later I ran by a couple arguing on their porch. I couldn't get details of the conversation, but they were not happy. My run was misty. I don't think I've ever run in mist. Hmmph.

ISS Power

A busy day with a little of everything. A quick run, some weights, some miter saw action, lots of vacuuming and cleaning, some yardwork, and 8 eggrolls to wash it all down.

I finally got around to my daily checking out of universetoday.com and they had a video posted from the ISS flyovers. The author, Bitmeizer, uses the music from the newer Star Trek trailer which is actually called 'Freedom Fighters' by Two Steps from Hell.

Apparently, Two Steps From Hell is a production music company based in Santa Monica, California. Founded by Nick Phoenix and Thomas J. Bergersen, the company produces music for movie trailers.

This video just makes me boggle my goggle though. The lightning and aurora are awesome. I recommend headphones, full screen, and in the dark if possible!

Pickle Surprise

If we would've known better, which we do now, we would have torn down the soffit in the kitchen. It's a PIA! It's lumpy and unlevel and unruly when trying to align things to it properly. It is what it is though.

Ate a ton of eggrolls this evening thanks to my mother. Thank you Mother! They were delishee-oso. That's how Dora says it no?

Here was my pickle birthday cake. Liz convinced Asa that it really wouldn't be a good idea to put a real pickle inside it, like I had joked. I think Liz bout burned herself trying to light that many candles.

I love this scene from the old War of The Worlds. You know the creature is outside and you suddenly see its shadow getting closer and closer, and then whammmo you see the hand touch her shoulder. I would've loved to have been in the theater back then to see the response to this.

Also my favorite line from this movie,"You never know where you'll end up after a square dance!"

And finally, a pic showing the under cabinet lighting glowing up that blingy backsplash we chose.

Ya Meyor

Not much interesting today. Worked on kitchen trim and did some cleaning. Liz got the under cabinet lighting installed. It looks really good.

Liz found a nice tub regularly for $1300 on clearance for , get this 189.00!!!! It's in Birmingham though. Even with truck rental though for transport, that could be a killer deal if they truly have it in stock.

I was supposed to run today, but it didn't happen. Yeesh, week total isn't even over 10. Ah well, Feb is a rest month, it's official.

Human Being

Wow, look at this ugly mess! Like you care! I got bored of course.

A sleepy day that was fairly intense mentally. Lots of ponderous things being contemplated in the universe. Who have I become? Where do I want to go? What am I afraid of? What will fulfill me? Ughhh I get sleepy just thinking about such things, but yet there they are looming....unavoidable.

It occurs to me that I have not mentioned the movie Drive. I certainly have been watching some movies lately. That only means one thing though...that I am not doing enough renovation. But that's ok. Yes the movie Drive....

I can't get this movie out of my head! It just sucked me in from the opening scenes. It's considered by many to be an 'artsy' film, and this in turn pisses a lot of people off who find it dull and pretentious. Hmmm kinda like Solaris, except this time, I'm on the "I love it side!" Maybe it's because I completely dig the soundtrack. Maybe it's because I don't find the really long silences between Goslinger and Mulligan to be annoying. Maybe it's because I'm willing to suspend some logic for the sake of style and superhero like mysticism. I could go on and on, but I'm actually considering buying this movie. I rarely buy movies. I could definitely watch this movie a few times though.

Hexagonal Kindles

What is up peoples of the Earth?! I broke down and bought a Kindle, the entry level one with a nice case. Its screen is sooo much smaller than the ipad, but it's sooo much lighter which makes a big diff to my puny wrists. Seriously, it makes a difference.

I watched the movie Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy on youtube. It had some good additions like the Dolphin song, Alan Rickman's voice for Marvin the depressed robot, and Zoey Deschanel in a shower scene. Ha! But seriously, they really altered a lot of the dialogue which made it less funny in some ways. It seems like those that have consumed all that is HHGTG say that every rendition is different and has good and bad points. So the radio program, BBC tv show, book , and movie all have something to offer. Overall though, if I'd never read the book, I think I would've thought simply, "meh".

Kontroll is another movie I found on youtube and it's much more interesting to me. The characters are just so quirky and warm. One guy is a narcoleptic who falls asleep when he gets highly agitated. I'm sure it's a horrible disease, but so often it's portrayed so comically. I don't refuse the invitation to laugh either. But there's also this whole dark Tyler Durden sort of thing going on which was creepy and awkward.

I have the 50s version of War of The Worlds recorded. I will watch that this week hopefully.

I watched the old Solaris which is a Russian directed film. It's intriguing, but it comes off as being so dull that it's either just that, dull and contrived, or for some people it's pure genius. I'm really not sure. Maybe I'm missing the genius in it. Now I want to re-watch the newer version with Clooney. However, reading about the novel, I think the coolest concept which maybe gets muddled in the movie, is that "Man" is unable to truly look for 'alien' life in the sense that man only really wants to see a mirror image of himself. Something like that anyway. Speaking of alien life, did you know Saturn has a hexagon shape on the north pole? There have been fluid dynamic studies over the years that can reproduce this, but as to how it got on Saturn and what keeps it going for decades is debatable. It just boggles my mind really.

Poop Buffet

I walked past a woman around my age or younger walking her dog while walking mine. We waved at each other, the cursory 'sup fellow dog person' wave. As she passed I could hear her talking on the phone. She said, "I just don't know what to do! It's like I came back into town and he just keeps texting me, saying that I belong to him!" Yikes! Then she yelled at her dog..guess what his name was. Iverson! Now that's pretty unique.

I ran today. wow! It's been two weeks since my last run. Two weeks! I didn't even take that long off for my groin strain last year. Ughhh It's been two weeks since I got full on sick and I still have a spasmic cough here and there. Bloody colds! My run was slow and tiring too, but I kinda expected that.

Took my daughter to the base exchange today. Was having a pizza craving and thought, I'll just nab a slice at the food court and Asa can have a Popeyes biscuit. Last time we ate there, we had just sat down with all of our food, and Asa tells me that she has to poop. Ughh I tell her you've got to hold it child. So walking in today, I remind her that now is the time for the potty. She declares she's good!

I get a biscuit for her and a drink cup and as I'm paying for it, she says "Daddy I have to poop with this worried look." Sigh..off to the bathroom we go. She tells me on the way she just has to pee. Anyway, in the stall,...oh and btw..this post is going to get gross for some of you. In the stall, the autoflush is being rather aggressive which scares my girl. So I walk to the rear and block the sensor with my hand. I tell my daughter to make sure she sits ALL the way on the potty. I thought she was going to pee. So she poops this big glob of pea green kryptonite. I'm like just focus on wiping so I can flush this wretched smell. We wash hands and were done. All I want to do is eat some pizza, I'm starving!

Not 10 steps out of the bathroom and she says, "uh oh". She holds her hands up and somehow she has poop on both hands. Back to the bathroom we go. Once inside, I notice she has poop all over her sleeve around her wrist. I pick her up since the sink is kinda high, that way she can wash real good, but she's just moving poop around. I put her down, and I get some towels to wet them and soak off the poo sleeve when I notice that down her whole back of the forearm on the other sleeve is covered in poo. WTF! I stop to contemplate the situation and realize that the whole left front of my tshirt is covered in poo. AAAHHHH!! How the hell is it multiplying! I picture picking her up, and then I spy her whole bottom covered in poo. Ahhhhhhh! We're covered in stank green pea poo.

I'm kinda pissed at this point, but we have to leave. I strip her down to her undies in the car and I take my shirt off, so I just have on jeans. When I get home, of course the neighbors are outside and first they see me get out. I wave like yah it's all good. Then Asa runs out naked screaming I'm cooold! I'm cooold! I could see the look on the faces like "wth?!" I just made a face that said , ya know how it is.

My pizza quest continued later and was thwarted by Godfather's deciding today was renovation day. So I ended up at BC Pizza Buffet which was just ok. At that point I really didn't care.

Oh and I'm typing on my desktop pc. It hasn't run since June of last year. Is that not just bonkers?!

Finished Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy. While I found much of it clever and some of it lough out loud funny, I was kinda like "that's it?" at the end of the book. Maybe my expectations were too high for a novel given so much praise. Maybe I'm too much of a fuddy duddy these days. It really doesn't matter though. It was a fun read, and now I'm that much richer in pop culture.

Oh and I forgot to mention. Again, a crime of not bringing my camera with me. Maybe I should get a better cellphone. But anyway, the license plate on this car at the BX!! It was creepy and funny. You've seen pictures of cherubs laying down all cute looking right? Well this plate had a pic of a cherub, but the wings and head were of a child and the legs and butt were built long and muscular like a man with massively round buttocks. It was atrocycal! Thats a horrible word combo isn't it. It was a cherub fail for sure.

Blurglecruncheon

Ughhhhh... this hack cough is pretty annoying. I'm finally feeling somewhat better leaving the mucous oceans for dryer ground. Just gotta shake this cough off. It laughs at cough syrup by the way. In fact it rather pisses it off.

Liz's friend is stationed in Germany living off base. It's quite cold where she's at right now. Her heat stopped working. Apparently, it was her fault for not filling her heating oil tanks. How much do you think it cost her to fill these? Keep in mind this was not even remotely done quickly either ( think like a week +) Hmmm maybe 200 dollars? or 500 dollars even? Nope, try twenty-six hundred dollars!!!!! They have to come and fill 3 thousand liter tanks. Her toothpaste was frozen the other morning. Be mindful of old houses I spose.

Finished reading Stars My Destination. I don't think it was the best sci fi ever, granted I haven't read even the top 10 so what do I know. I think my favorite character was an albino woman who saw everything in infrared. Think Cate Blanchet as an albino whose as cold and cruel as she is seductive and beautiful. It's a crazy ass story though, to think it was written in 56 is just crazy.

One night while I was in the peak of my illness I stayed up all night and morning and read HG Wells War of The Worlds. I really liked it! I guess it's no surprise, but just soo much better than either of the movies. More tension, more horror, and some really creepy moments really made it come to life in my head. If only my geography of London and the surrounding contryside were better.

I am currently reading the infamous Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. I remember a classmate in 7th grade reading this book. He told me in great detail about the book and couldn't help but giggle and laugh. I completely didn't get it. Well Kevin, I'm finally ready for it.

Nooooooooooo

The storm of sickness has been on the horizon for a while. There's no question it's coming ashore now evidenced by the ever increasing lump in my throat. I'm hoping the damage is minimal.

Where did they go?

It was a spartan place. All concrete, a couple old chairs, and shabby white curtains that flapped in the wind. It was near sunset, and this home was on the beach with the ocean very close. I was just standing there, maybe naked, enjoying the warm salty air, when I noticed Finley about 30 yards away. Where was Dory I wondered. So I looked in the house. Nothing. When I came back outside the water level had increased dramatically. The sun had almost set as well.

This is when panic set in as I pictured my dogs' legs sinking in the beach sand and getting stuck. For some reason they couldn't get out. That's when I saw Dory come flying out of the surf. She's such the scrappy little dog. I ran into the ocean and dove into the darkness. I struggled for breath fighting in the surf. Finally, I found him and brought him out of the water. He was slumped like he was dead. I was just trying to keep from going crazy. I set him down in the house and then left. For some reason I could not bring myself to find out if he was really dead. After some time had passed, with much agony, Finley came around the corner looking very ill. It only mattered to me that he was alive though. The bad dream was over.

Flying Barbara

I crossed the line this morning making my home fries and sausage. I upped the amount of habanero placed into the mix. By the end of my meal, I was really sweating and my stomach felt messed up. I had to drown that with some of Asa's Frosted Toast Crunch cereal. Maaan! That cereal is pretty good. The evil sugary death that it is....

I ate 4 bowls of chili tonight at the school PTO chilli cook off. The last bowl I ate had a bunch of green peppers in it. It was not was I had envisioned. Pffft I ate it anyway though.

When I was into watches, there was a website that was a deal a day type site. I'm not sure what it is with watches, but theres a lot of deal of the day sites. Some of them have these descriptions that are really crazy stories which suddenly pull the watch into the story somehow. The writing cracks me up as it is random and often makes trendy references like "oh that's the same watch Colonel Tighe had isn't it".

Here's one I came across today that amused me. It's for a Pyle Sports Skiing Watch.

Barbara woke up and found that she could fly.
The discovery came not even a full second after she woke up. Barb was in the middle of a nightmare involving villainous ice cream trucks taunting her with the voice of Samuel L. Jackson, saying things like, “You want some ice cream? Too bad,” and, “Today....ain't yo day.” The trucks then proceeded to chase her down in the park before Barb eventually had to jump off a cliff to get away from them.

This last move actually propelled her body out of her bed and to the floor. However, just before she reached the floor, she began to hover and never hit the ground. Barb splashed some water on her face and checked everything she could to verify that she wasn't still dreaming. She proceeded to practice her new skill and managed to get complete control over it within an hour. The only shortcoming, if you could even call it that, was the Barb could only seem to fly a maximum of a foot off the ground.

Excited, she set off for the book store, hovering a foot above the sidewalk the entire way. People stared and reacted differently to the sight. Many were afraid, thinking that Barb was some kind of monster or spirit or hallucination. She found that she could also lay down while flying so she was hovering while completely horizontal as well.

Upon entering the book store, every eye was on her. They weren't sure what was happening, but it seemed odd that this person was shopping for books and asking for recommendations. Some awkwardly shuffled out of the store while others kept throwing glances her way while they continued to shop.

“Excuse me,” Barb asked an employee, “do you have the novelization of Mean Girls?”

“Ummm-” he began before Barb cut her off.

“Ooh, that is the nicest looking watch? What is that?”

“Oh, this? This is the Pyle Ski Master V Professional Ski Watch.”

“It looks great!”

“I know!”

“Great!”

“Yes.”

Chevy Luv

I cut up some habanero for my tunafish tonight. Was goooood!

OMG A commercial for the show My Strange Addiction just came on. One woman likes to stick scissors in her ears. Whhhhaaaatt! The guy in the show likes to make love to his car!!!! It's not even a nice car. He's laying on the ground kissing the bumper! WTH!!!

I ordered a new watch the other night from a company called Soleus. Supposedly they are runners who make watches. They make them while they are running. I couldn't resist the wild colors. Liz said it looks like a clown watch. I said I should get those Ronald McDonald running shoes to match. Those would be the original Brooks Green Silence shoes. Those bad boys were comfy. It was hard to pass on them when they went on clearance.

This afternoon I saw a guy running over the bridge in the rain. I wanted to roll down the window and yell something, but it was pouring. I had this crazy thought of scaring him and him falling off the side of the rail. Yah maybe not, so I just gave him the nod of respect. I wondered though if he was having fun.

So I have been trying to come up with some cool sounding androgenous names. Why? You need not worry about such things, but really..it's tough to do. Then I realized I had them all along as oddly enough they were names that Asa almost got. You know Asa is really a guys name right. The ending in 'a' though makes it seem feminine to me. What would the odds be that she would fall in love with a guy with the same name? Hmmmmmm

Mine Cough

In my previous post I wrote "mindfields". That's an interesting image if you think about it. Ok maybe it was just a stupid mistake.

I raised the big fat slug flag today. I'm fearful of catching pneumonia too. There's coughing all around me. Skeeeeerred!

Shoulder is not happy either. The couch betrays me!

Forgot to mention , I tried on Sketchers Go Run shoes the other day. Runblogger talked to one of the designers who actaully came from working on the Nike Free shoes. And they do kinda feel like Frees, except with a shaved heel and thick midsole....which is really weird too. Definitely an interesting shoe though.

Biodiverse Pantry Mines

Two days rest for me. It's been close to a month since I took two days off. Finally caught up on some sleep too now that the Australian Open is over. I'm kinda sad it's over though. It was a lot of excitement for my evening. I started thinking, I really should go see a Grand Slam tournament. But which one? When? Australian Open would be great, but man that flight would kill me. I could do London I think. Surrounded by British accents..hhehehe that would be interesting.

Liz is really sick. I've managed to stay virus free so far. I'll keep knocking on wood. My friend in TN got really sick too, with bacterial pnemonia. He took a drug called Cipro I think and his achilles swelled up to the point where he couldn't walk. I'd steer clear of that drug if I were you.

Finally watched X Men first class. I don't think I can take Kevin Bacon serious anymore after his commercial with Google TV. He was still pretty cool though. Overall, it was okay for me. I just want the whole movie to be about Magneto. I love me some Fassbender Magneto. What would you do if you could control metal? I mean seriously...like medically what could one do. Inject liquid metal into someone and then shape a joint without surgery or somethig like that? But come on, that's tedious and just waiting for some ingreat to sue you. It would be way more productive to just crush stuff. You could also go to those mindfields that have so many mines that no one goes into those areas anymore. Course the biodiversity that exits there now might not be fond of that. Ooooh treasure hunting in the ocean. You could raise the titanic!!!

Ok I'm rambling. I gotta go paint my pantry.

Chilli Cheese Tots Yum

Got brave and passed on the usual serrano peppers and picked up a couple of habaneros! Made an omelette today with just a third of the pepper. Not even any seeds. Cooked it up well to chill it down just a tad I hoped. And yah I used gloves to cut it up. That's such a painful lesson to learn. So my food had this great smooth heat to it. I was really surprised and pleased.

Have any of you seen these videos of strange noises coming from the sky? They are all over youtube and sound like weird metal banging or really creepy groaning like big a metal hinge slowed down really slow. I stumbled across them the other night waiting for tennis to start and got really creeped out. After some googling though, I think they are fake and part of maybe a viral sort of 2012 paranoia.

Speaking of tennis I couldn't be more pleased with how this Australian Open has gone. I was disappointed to see Maria Sharapova not only lose the final, but play well below her ability. I was very impressed with how she handled the loss in her runner up speech and in her press conference. She has so many devoted fans too. Can you imagine total strangers wishing you these deep sincere pleasant thoughts for your job? Fascinating. I really want her to win a Slam this year. WIth that said, I was very happy to see Azarenka win. Hopefully she won't lose first round in the French.

Perhaps my favorite match of the tournament was Murray vs Djokovic. A grinding 5 set blast fest with several 30 to 40 stroke rallies. It was just awesome to see Murray unleash himself and not beat himself. Plus seeing Ivan Lendl in his box is just too cool. He says to Andy, you will win, but first..you will feel pain, lots of pain! That is awesome! Anyway enough tennis talk.

So earlier this week I may have did too much weight on my dumbell presses. I mean my shoulder got tweeked at the beginning of the year bowling (guuuh) and suddenly I thought oh man, maybe I just tweaked both shoulders. Trying to imagine 2 impinged shoulders. ooof! Anyway, I took 3 days of from that and felt better yesterday, so I decided to do some really light weights and then a few pushups. An hour of so later I felt ok, but some part of me was worried I might wake up hurting. I also ran yesterday and felt kinda sluggy with a little soreness. Ughhh I'm such an endurance wimp!

I stayed up really late watching tennis and fell asleep on the couch. So when I got up on few hours of sleep, I thought..ughhh prolly not gunna run today. But as the morning progressed and I woke up, I found I was itching to run. So off I went since it was an awesome day to boot. Man! My run was insane! Was it the Greek Pisitichio I ate the night before? Sleeping on the couch? Who knows. I just felt like I could've ran all day. It was crazy delicious.

I ran down to Shalimar point and perused all the waterfront/golf course houses. Even if I had the money, I wonder if I'd really want to live in such houses. I ran by the clay courts we used to sneak onto when we were younger. It boggles my mind that we used to sneak on there and play for hours. I found some decent little hills on this run too. I kinda miss hills a little. At the end of my run I decided to push my pace. I pretended I was Ryan Hall with my hands flattened out and really pumping, my mouth making a small square as I tried to suck in as much air as I could. haha if you saw me, you'd prolly think, that guy looks weird and is kinda slow, but in my brain? I was Ryan Hall bitch! It was another good surprise. Where did all that energy come from? I'm going to say it was the greek food. Yahh thats it!

Da Beach

Oh Azarenka is pounding Aussie Kim right now. Im so excited!

I went to the beach today. It was crazy nice outside. What month is it?

Went to Lowes to buy a circular saw blade to cut metal. They don't carry them! They can special order them for 90 bucks. wow I'll go back to the hack saw idea.

Bought a simple bench to do barbell presses on. Oooff my muscles are sore, but in a good way.

Oooooh Azarenka just got broken. The crowd is sooo against her. They want their Aussie Kim to win. guuuhhhhheee!

Decapitated

Started my morning off with a little John J. Dunbar. Do you remember the scene at the end when he comes back from being captured and Stands With Fists basically virgin mauls him? hahahaha They must've laughed like crazy after that scene. I wiki'd DWW and read an interesting tidbit. Basically the language they were taught was done by a woman who taught them the 'female' dialect of Lakota, so when some Native Americans watched the film , they thought it was pretty funny to hear the men speaking like women. I also wiki'd Alien and read something I'd never scene, in that Ridley Scott wanted the Alien to bite Ripley's head off at the end and then talk in her voice in the flight recorder. Wow! Glad someone at Fox gave the slant eye and finger wag to that idea.

Ran today and just felt like crap. I'll bet it has nothing to do with the fact that I ate a ton of cheese last night and today. Running with a ball of cheese inside your belly...think about that.. yah not good. That's like trying to run your lawnmower on wood glue.

Cats! Some of you love them, so you'll appreciate the conversation I had this morning on the way to school. Asa....there's a dead rat by the truck and it's head as been taken off. Don't get to close to it please. She yells ahhhhh! Did a cat do that!?!! Prolly so, come on lets go. Aren't we glad I'm not in the habit of uploading pics lately. :)

Gaucamellow

Sometimes people have some nice things to say on my youtube channel.

Other reviewers take note on this guy.Opening minute of his vid was done RIGHT. 1) He's SHOWING you well known knives of similar size BUT...2) his voice is delivering interesting information NOT directly related to the pictures on screen. He's respecting his viewers by cramming twice the info in the same time frame. I was a pro news & documentary producer for a long time. On purpose or not, this guy has demonstrated some skills .

I kinda surprised myself with my second fastest run on regular route today, in bikilas even. It seemed hard to breathe for the first mile or so..kinda weird. I kept thinking, I should not have eaten a spoonful of gaucamole. But it was a good thing because we had a huge dinner tonight in the newly done up dining area. We had more fish tacos!, super bean dip, and a mexican chicken and bean soup. For desert , we had a pretzel marshmellow, strawberry jello desert, key lime pie, and flan. My good bud Rick was in attendance and proclaimed that the key lime was perhaps the best he's ever had. This is a big compliment from a guy who can be pretty picky on food items. Liz done guuud.

Needless to say I am so wonderfully full of food which is making me so tired. I don't think I'm going to be able to watch any Australian open tonight.

BBQ DUCHEBAG

Ran today with no issues. Rarrrgh! Put my lower half in the pool three times for about 30 secs a time. AHHHHHHHHH!!! Felt like my ankles were going to burst. Which was odd, but right after my legs just felt fantastic.

There's a local BBQ joint named Kinfolks. It's been here forever and I've never eaten there. Until tonight! It wasn't as good as the BBQ joint by my home in Veegus, but it was pretty tasty. I liked the spicy bbq sauce actually.

I also had lunch with my Adjustment Bureau mate at a Greek restaurant. Mmmmm Dolmades goood.

Yesterday I got another massive headache after driving to Pensacola. WTH! Something about that drive gives me a headache.

Every now and then I'll get a fairly nasty comment on my youtube channel. This one was especially tasty.

"Gay lisp, frolicking and flameing over 200 yr old kitch/long hunters knife on youtube=HUGE DUCHEBAG. Just like the 9000 mossberg 500 and remmington 870 reviews...Oh I just bought myself my first Kabar I gotta go do a review cause Im so proud Im a big boy now LOL. Please help save the Internet from getting clogged up with bullshit. Stop being Nerds and GTFO."

Criticizing spelling is fairly weak imo when it comes to internet smackdown , but the really bad spelling of douche just cracks me up!

And I watched Super 8 last night. I'm sure I'm the last of my friends to watch this flick. And I have to agree it was very cool! I liked all those crazy little kids. I loved how even with all the 'adult' crazy stuff going on around them, they stayed in their world of what was important; get the girl, make a movie, blow shit up! Another winner from JJ Abrams.

Cyber killing tacos

Mmmmmm I'm really into fish tacos lately. Liz made some killer ones tonight. Tasty and healthy!

Had my third electrician come out today. Third time is a charm though. He was fast, professional, and cost way less than I expected. Win win win! I am actually kinda bummed my second electrician decided to not ever call me back. I thought Gary was better than that.

So today was my third day of running in a row. I was a little sore afterward and thought ,well it's been a while since I've run over 5 miles two days in a row. I know, shocking, but that's what running logs are good for. Turns out, its been since May of last year that I've done over 15 miles in three days. Interestingly I took one day off, then ran some sprint intervals. Then my quad went angry 2 days later. So maybe I'll take it easy the rest of the week. I feel good right now, so that's a good sign.

Oh and guess how many buzzards I counted on the comms tower today? About forty eight!!!!!! It's like a perfect scenario for a scify channel thriller where buzzards are turned into cyber killing machines from the cell tower signals.

Gummy Buzzards

It was not my usual watch. It was a gift to my father a few Chistmas's ago. It's an inexpensive Timex with a large screen, but it has a chrono. I probably didn't need my jacket, but I hate starting off too cold. I walked down a road by my parents house swishing along in that bright green jacket. Here was a spot that my friend got backed into by a car after we ate cola gummies for the first time. Here was a spot that I recall riding my bike long ago and the cold wind just ripped through me registering cold like it never had before. Enough nostalgia, time to run.

I have this thing where if I'm running around people, like cars and such, I tend to run faster if I can. So I try to slow myself down and remember how much more enjoyable the run is if i slowly increase my pace over time. Really, I just want to get into a rhythm where my breathing and movement are comfortable. The body likes rhythm yes.

First I pass a father with his 5yr old son pushing a stroller with another small child. Later I run by a boy trying to jump his remote control cars on the curb. I feel bad for him because he's doing it all wrong. Then I run by a large red truck that stays at the stop sign for a few seconds longer than most. This truck is ridiculously loud. I see a couple of houses for sale and make a mental note to look them up later on Zillow. One was 695 thou since it was on the water. But the inside of the house was sooo old. I guess another couple of hundred thou wouldn't be such a big deal perhaps. Cough.

It looks like it wants to rain. I see Ospreys ( the military vehicles) in the distance as a squadron is based at Hurlburt. I've also noticed a bunch of buzzards in this area lately. So here it was in the middle of the nice neighborhood, a patch of tall oaks and pines was host to about 8 buzzards. So big and black, swooping here and there. I had a faint vision of the old looney toon buzzard.

It was a good run today. Saw plenty of strange people who prolly thought I was strange ( look at that dudes hair!) . Had a car full of young guys yell at me. Waved at some runners and some folks sitting in the driveway. Ran past many dogs and a couple of dog walkers whose dogs obviously wanted to come with me. It was really hot by the time I was done. Is this not the warmest winter in recent years? I should look it up.

Shorty Mullet

I was in Belk the other day in the kids section and right next to the Hello Kitty dresses were size 7 shorty shorts. My jaw hit the floor when I saw them. I said, these are not shorty shorts, these are skankotron shorts which have no business being anywhere near the intended age group. I mean seriously, I will have to upload the picture I took. Insane.

Did you know that there are bunch of videos on youtube of people hula hooping and doing complex and artistic manuevers? It's the hoop life and its a interestin little subculture.

I've run in my bikilas outside now a couple of times and they've actually felt really good. I've run outisde in them before, but these last couple of times, its just felt different in a good way. Do I dare wear them for a longer run though?

In other running news, the Olympic marathon trials were run in Houston this weekend. Meb Keflezighi came in first for the men at 2:09:08 which I think was close to a record. Ryan Hall came in about 20 seconds later. And I'd never heard of the third guy named Abdi Abdirahman. Shalane Flanagan came in first for the ladies. Not bad for her second marathon. She won a bronze medal before in a shorter distance, so I'm hoping she busts out some gold in London. In second was Desiree Davila who podiumd in the last Boston I'm pretty sure. And in third, the new mother Kara Goucher! I recall reading a spread in Runners world about her a while back and how she beats herself in her head easily. Here's hoping that this Olympic chance unleashes the mama power in her!

I was watching Prometheous parody trailers on youtube and found a Dark Knight rises trailer where they put cats on everyone's heads. Picture Bane as a kitty cat with his mask on. Funnny or strange?

I'm feeling an urge to buy a flashlight. Such an odd sensation!

What do you get when you combine a mullet with a mohawk? A mo-mullet, or mullawk? Then what happen if you add in one of those jedi padawan pony tails? I'm thinking this hair style might be for me!

Cooter Bubbles

Today I found a tiny little cooter swimming in my pool. I immediately sccoped it up and put him on the ground. Was it a him? I don't know that much about turtles, or even if it was a cooter. The markings were awesome though and from looking online, I say he was a FL cooter. Where'd he come from? Where's he going to go? It's such a mysterious journey that I was just a sliver of time in. Did you know turlles live a really lonnnnngggg time. When reading about caring for a turtle online, one guy had two of them for 36 years! Talk about a pet commitment.

Ran intervals on the treadmill today. I feel so pumped after intervals....why don't I do it more? I guess it's a question of mental energy perhaps. Hopefully, I will keep fitting those into my weeks.

I downloaded a Hello Kitty game today where you shoot bubbles. It's kind of like tetris with colored bubbles. Thing is, I like tetris. So I find myself playing this Hello Kitty bubble game. I don't think Asa likes me playing her games!

Boiled Heart

I boiled a turkey heart and liver today. As I bit into the heart, I could taste the blood oozing out of the center. I hadn't cooked it long enough!
If you're immediate thought was "what?!! did you even turn on the range?!" then you'd be right. I was cooking it for my dogs and no way was I going to get all Zimmerman on that. Anyway, one dog would eat the liver, the other wouldn't. Finley is finnicky it seems.

I decided to update my ipad software since I've been using it more. I even downloaded some apps! haha I told my friend not too long ago, wth do I need apps for. I downloaded a kindle app. As much as I think I would rather just read a real book, impatience got a hold of me. So I downloaded my latest book. I think I like the kindle better perhaps.

Asa loves the ipad though. I think even Leapster who makes a lot of kids tech toys came out with a leap pad. Her favorite game is a dress up game as well as playing tic tac toe with me. Someday she will be able to out think me in games. That will be a sweet day.

Beezow?!!!

So yah last week when my dad was in the hospital, I came to the saying, If you don't have a catheter in you, its a damn good day!

Ran in my Brooks Mach 11s today. I haven't run in them prolly since july or aug. They definitely felt 'thin' so to speak. The soles on that shoe aren't much. I think my turnover is just a bit faster in them though. It's weird, I just feel like I run faster in them and yet feel like they are a little tougher on my feet.

I had some crazy wrist pain today and some other odd pains. WTH did these come from? I totally forgot I went bowling the othe day at the kids bday party. Wow bowling jacked me up! So I'm wearing a wristbrace right now. Silly bowling.

Crazy busy

So the past week was just non stop it seems. My dad went in for hip surgery on Wednesday in Pensacola. He made it fine and came home on Saturday. However, I got really ill Wednesday while at the hospital and that just wore me out for the rest of the week. So much interesting stuff occurred while I was in the hospital and ...ooof its just too far back in my head to retrieve all of it now it seems. Maybe I should take a recorder with me.

I finished the book A Cat Named Oscar while at the hospital. I bought it back in Sept of last year and just forgot about it. The book is really less about the Cat which can tell when people will die in a nursing home in RI and more about how dementia alters a famiily. You can imagine, it's scary, heartbreaking, and also fascinating, I had to fight back tears in the surgery waiting room when finishing the book.

I've been hungry for another sci fi adventure and finally started my next book called Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester. People love this book, with many saying its THE ultimate sci fi book. It starts off with a scientist accidentally figuring out how to teleport himself. In an effort to reproduce the teleportation, they get suicide volunteers becuase it seems you can only teleport when you're in mortal danger. It's a crazy beginning. Teleportation suddenly changes everything, economics, crime, property, and sports. However, you can not go further than 1000 miles. hahahaha I love that!

Anyway, this week should be very busy. My running slacked last week, so hopefully I can get back on it this week.

oh see now I remembered something, in my daily reading of everything Prometheous, there was discussion on an imdb forum about some script saying the space jockeys force two men to have sex for experimental reasons. Someone decided to flex their uber knowledge and said no no no, it was "Male rape by telepathic proxy!". To which someone responded, "Isn't that a punk band?". I totally think someone should pick up that name! Too funny.
